If your priority is to secure your home, your choice should be without question the aluminum slat curtain. Difficult to break into, and noisy at that, it is the most robust option available. The PVC slat is a light and therefore relatively fragile alternative, and more suitable for small and medium-sized windows.

Lacquered aluminium roller shutter slats have great resistance against the effects of British weather, and you can enjoy a variety of colours. However, the lacquer can be easily scratched with direct contact, so be sure to only clean with an appropriate micro-fibre cloth or similar.
PVC remains the cheaper material and is ideal for projects with lower budgets, to those equipping a rental property, etc. But in terms of quality / price ratio over time, aluminium has the best value of a long-lasting investment.
